The Nature of Beeswax Candles
I will, eventually, add more to this page regarding the way in which beeswax is produced, ivory vs. yellow wax, etc.. However, in the interests of expediency, here are some basic facts that you might want to know about 100% beeswax candles.
  1. Beeswax is not rigid. You will want to store your candles horizontally to prevent warping. Hand-dipped beeswax candles are best stored hanging. I've found that placing them on a coat hanger works well. I also suggest keeping them covered to prevent dust build-up.
  2. Overtime, beeswax develops a white powdery covering known as 'bloom'. It it completely natural and will not affect the burning of your candle. If you do not like the appearance of bloom, you may gently buff the candle with a soft cloth to remove it.
  3. Beeswax has a different structure and melting point than paraffin or blend candles. As such, they require a large, different kind of wick for proper burning. If you are accustomed to other candles, you might be suprised at the amount of light produced. However, don't worry :) We work hard to choose the best wick for each candle to create the best look and burn time.
Why Beeswax?
Beeswax is an all natural wax made by honey bees. Beeswax candles burn brighter and longer with little to no smoke. Yellow beeswax has a light, sweet aroma of honey. Ivory beeswax is yellow beeswax that has been lightened and so has a greatly reduced aroma, making it perfect for candles that are used in conjunction with incense or when a heavier aroma is undesirable. Beeswax is the perfect choice for those looking for a traditional or natural lighting option.
